Dragon: A New Space Odyssey?

In a week likely to be dominated by news from both United Launch Alliance and Blue Origin, the company which began the ongoing disruption in the launch industry kicked things off with an early morning announcement regarding two new contracts.

From SpaceX:

SpaceX Signs New Commercial Launch Contracts

Hawthorne, CA/Paris, France, September 14, 2015 On Monday at this week’s World Satellite Business Conference in Paris, France, SpaceX announced two new orders for Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles.  The contracts include launch of a communications satellite for HISPASAT on a Falcon 9 and launch of the Saudi Arabian Arabsat 6A communications satellite on a Falcon Heavy.

“We are pleased to add these additional launches to our manifest,” said Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX. “The diversity of our missions and customers represents a strong endorsement of our capabilities and reflects SpaceX’s efforts to provide a breadth of launch services to our growing customer base.”

The above missions are expected to launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida between late-2017 and 2018.  With these additions, SpaceX currently has over 60 missions on manifest representing over $7 billion under contract.

End release.

Late last week the company also released new images and video of the Commercial Crew version of Dragon.

SpaceX, which is currently in a stand-down after the June 28th failure of a Falcon 9 during the course of the NASA CRS-7 mission, is expected to resume flights before the end of the year.

SpaceX mentioned that they were looking into recovering the Dragon capsule from the failed CRS-7 ISS supply launch.
Any word on the fate of that capsule or efforts to locate and possibly recover it?
